PAOK Thessaloniki 1 - 0 Asteras Tripolis

PAOK recorded it's 4th win in a row this time beating Asteras Tripolis by 1-0 in a match which was very poorly officiated by the match referee.
PAOK suffered minor setbacks in the first 20 minutes. In the 10th minute injury prone Lucio Filomeno went down with a hamstring injury and was replaced by Koutsianikoulis. In the 21st minute PAOK was reduced to 10 men after Vierihna received a straight red card for pushing Bastia after moments earlier Bastia seemed to punch Vierihna in the face. Batia only received a yellow card. This was another example of poor refereeing in Greek Football. Was this a plan to try and get top PAOK players sent off so they can miss the derby match against Olympiakos next week. You have to think so. As for the match despite playing with one less player PAOK looked the better of the two sides and in the 40th minute were unlucky not to open the scoring when a long ball by Garcia found Ivic who got in between the two defenders and the goalkeeper but his header just missed the target. On the stroke of half time a counter attack from PAOK started by Koutsianikoulis who with a solo run went pass everyone but his final shot was well held by Asteras Tripoli keeper in Anastasopoulos.
In the second half it was PAOK who created the first chance in the 52nd minute when from the right Koutsianikoulis took the defenders on and from a good position his shot went straight to the keeper. In the 54th minute PAOK did take the lead from a classic counter attack started by Vitolo who put Ivic through and he passed to Koutsianikoulis who despite miss kicking the ball manage to score the only goal of the game. In the end a good result for PAOK despite playing most of the match with 10 players.

PAOK COACH FERNANDO SANTOS PRESS CONFERENCE: When we have one attacker playing which he suffered an injury we run out of luck. Despite playing with one man less my players played very well. At the half time break I told my players how to break down the Asteras Tripolis defence. And that we did.
