PAOK started 2010 on a big high after defeating Panionios by 1-0 in a capacity crowd at Toumba Stadium.
PAOK were the better team from the start and in the 3rd minute missed a great chance to take the lead when Ivic went through the middle and his pass was partially blocked and the ball went straight to Koutsianikoulis who's shot from a good position was saved by Andriola. In the 10th minute PAOK won a penalty when Latka handled the ball inside the penalty area from a Arabatzis cross. Unfortunately the penalty was missed as Ivic's spot kick was kept out by Andriola. In the 21st minute PAOK took the lead when from the resulted free kick from Lino found Ivic who scored with a volley to give PAOK a 1-0 lead. In the 43rd minute another chance goes missing for PAOK as a long range effort from Arabatzis just cleared the crossbar.
In the second half very little was created by both sides as this was a battle of midfield. New singing Christiano came on and showed some great touches. He also missed a great opportunity to score in the 78th minute when his volley just went wide of the target from a Vierihna cross. In the end a good way to start 2010 for PAOK.

PAOK COACH FERNANDO SANTOS PRESS CONFERENCE: This was a fair win today for us. We created chances and despite missing a penalty we responded well. In the second half Panionios tried to take control of the match but we pressured them all over the ground. We were very well organized and didn't let Panionios to create any chances. However we were poor in our counter attacks.
